09/12 Breakfast Panel Discussion

Attracting and retaining local young professionals

Entry-level job seekers have the luxury of an abundance of job offers. Corporates face a high level of competition for talent. What are the criteria of these young graduates to perceive a company as a better employer? What are good practices of Employment branding?

Panel Composition:

  • Ms Jaya Dass, Country Director Randstad
  • Mr Frank KuijstersDigne Consult, a specialist on HR/cultural differences/executive coach
  • Mr Jan TimmerManaging Director at Pezy Group, Singapore
  • Mr Marnix Mali, Head of HR, APAC, Booking.com

Once employees have commenced their careers their focus turns to advancement and how to quickly progress up the corporate ladder.

Job-hopping in Singapore is fairly standard practice, much to the frustration of employers and HR teams. And evidently this is not just an issue with senior and middle management – even recent graduates are, apparently, prepared to hop, skip, and jump between roles making moving employers an Olympic sport.

How should companies play catch-up with job-hopping employees?

What are key attributes that Singaporean young professionals look for in their dream job?

Standard working hours, a good relationship with colleagues or a transparent organisation?

According to studies on ‘generation Y’ non of the above.

Though understanding generation Y and their preferences is key to managing performance and engagement.

  • Does Gen Y use social media as a source to learn about organizations?
  • What drives Gen Y? Money or opportunities to develop and grow?
  • Would Gen Y rather collaborate than compete?
  • Is Gen Y likely to built relationships with co-workers and do they feel comfortable in partnerships?
  • Why is Gen Y job hopping?
