Singapore, centre for growing Asian gas industry
Singapore has a vibrant energy industry, which produces, transforms and supplies energy in various forms to all sectors. This is largely dominated by the electricity generation and oil refining sector. Manufacturing of petrochemical products is also another key component of Singapore’s energy industry. She is presently a global-leader in oil trading and in the movement of oil tankers. Natural gas provides close to 80% of Singapore’s fuel mix for electricity generation. Singapore currently buys around seven million tonnes per year of piped gas from Indonesia and Malaysia, but has also begun to position itself to tap into the increased global gas supply. The new Singapore LNG terminal – with two huge storage tanks – will help Singapore diversify its gas supply. The third tank is expected to be ready in 2014, with plans to add a fourth tank in the future, so that Singapore can access opportunities for competitively-priced gas as well as LNG-related business opportunities such as LNG trading.
Gastech, ‘het kloppende hart’ voor alle actoren in de gasindustrie
