Seven Clean Seas is a high impact ocean cleanup social enterprise built around the foundation of supporting People and Planet simultaneously. Founded back in 2018 by Tom and wife Pamela after taking a trip to a beautiful island in Thailand they saw the state of the plastic pollution and wanted to combat the issue first-hand.
It quickly became evident that to make a measurable and meaningful impact around ocean plastic pollution, SCS needed to develop and scale both ocean plastic recovery and proactive waste management solutions. The issue this then raised was around the lack of funding solutions which are equally scalable and intrinsically linked to ocean plastic recovery. In response to this need, SCS pioneered the world’s first Ocean Plastic Offsetting solution to help corporate clients mitigate the environmental impact of their plastic footprints. It mobilizes capital and creates a mandate to clean the oceans simultaneously.
With the majority of marine plastic leakage originating from just a handful of countries, SCS has a goal to operate in the seven worst polluting countries by 2025, maximising impact. Currently SCS operates in two of these locations (Malaysia and Indonesia) and runs ongoing programs which create sizable environmental and socio-economic benefits. Beyond this goal, SCS has ongoing activities in Singapore, UK and Brazil. “
Tom Peacock-Nazil graduated in the UK in 2011, having studied International Business. After moving to Singapore in 2013 with his wife Pamela. Tom was increasingly upset with the level of plastic pollution in South East Asia as a whole. After one particularly eye-opening trip to Thailand. Tom and Pamela made the decision to start hosting educational coastal clean ups in Singapore with the hope of highlighting the issue of ocean plastic pollution to the masses. Tom can best be described as an accidental environmentalist and after quitting the rat race to pursue his passion is now championing the responsible plastic usage movement full-time at Seven Clean Seas.
