Rotterdam is a major port city in the Netherlands. Key topics for the panel discussion: Water management and Engineering, Energy transition, Renewable energy, Sustainability, Innovation, Logistics of a major port and Leadership.
Energy transition is a significant structural change in an energy system regarding supply and consumption. A crucial enabler of sustainable development and climate resilience. Energy transition is not a uniform, one-size-fits-all process. Forward-looking leadership and actions will create new jobs, stimulate growth and harvest social and health benefits.
After the panel discussion there will be a possibility to ask questions and participate in a dialogue with our panel.

Mr. A. Aboutaleb, Mayor of Rotterdam
Mayor A. Aboutaleb has been Mayor of Rotterdam since 2009. He is the second post-war mayor of Rotterdam to be appointed for a third term of 6 years.
Previously, he represented the PvdA (Labor Party) as State Secretary for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment in the fourth Balkenende cabinet (2007-2008) and as an alderman in Amsterdam (2004-2007).
The 2021 World Mayor Prize was awarded to Ahmed Aboutaleb for his commitment to treat all citizens as ‘Rotterdammers’, irrespective of their origins and backgrounds. Without this obligation it is not possible to build a stronger, fairer city.
Mr. Allard Castelein , CEO Port of Rotterdam
Allard Castelein is Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Rotterdam Authority since 1 January 2014. He previously worked at Economic Board Zuid-Holland as Member of the board.
He started working with Shell in The Netherlands in 1987. From 1992 he lived and worked in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom in various positions in Marketing, Strategy, Business Development and General Management. Allard returned to The Netherlands in 2002 to join the Executive Board of the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij, a Shell-Exxon JV. In 2003 he became Commercial Manager for Shell’s European Upstream business. In 2009 Allard was appointed Vice President Environment for Shell.
Mr. Ed Brinksma, President Executive Board Erasmus University Rotterdam
Mr. Ed Brinksma (1957) is President of the university’s Executive Board since 1 September 2020. In that capacity he is responsible for general governance issues, among which the relationship with the Supervisory Board, the university’s strategy and strategic policy and international affairs.
In addition, he creates and maintains contact with external parties including government departments and agencies, the business community and other knowledge institutions.
