Oesha Thakoerdin

Oesha S. I. Thakoerdin, as Co-Founder, Director and Board Member of WEnergy Global, brings in over 25 years of experience in sustainable (urban) development, low-emission (carbon) and climate-resilient development in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. She has experience across geographies and sectors, such as energy, water supply, sanitation, solid waste and transport, and across different geographical and administrative levels. She worked with large Dutch consultancy firms and with multilateral development banks (MDBs) including the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as Senior Urban Development Specialist respectively as Senior Urban Climate Change Resilience Specialist. She served as Senior Manager of the R&D Program on Urban Prototyping (on smart city concepts) of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and as the Regional Policy Coordinator with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of the Ministry of National Development (MND) of Singapore.

From 2016-2020 she was assigned to the Asian Development Bank’s Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund (UCCRTF), supporting the trust fund’s disbursement and results delivery, from a systems-thinking approach for programming infrastructure investments within a climate resilience framework in Asian countries, with a focus on Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and the Philippines, in particular nature-based solutions in the new capital city, New Clark City. Momentarily she advises MDBs on mainstreaming climate change investments, impacts, risks and actions into national and city strategies and plans aligned with the Paris Agreement, and setting up sustainability (city) frameworks aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and Design from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, was trained at Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) in Sustainable Finance, at LEAD Europe in Leadership for Sustainable Development, and is a Certified GRI/G4 Sustainability Reporting Specialist.
