Traditionally, corporate functions such as Finance were outsourced primarily to leverage lower cost, operational efficiencies, scalability to support growth, and control from an audit and compliance perspective. However, popularity of locations across Asia has increased wage inflation and real estate cost. In addition, the rise of digital has changed the outsourcing business case and therefore conversations across senior executives, operations, vendors, and external stakeholders alike.
To add, this past year changed everything as working remotely affected Finance teams, captive shared service teams, and BPO teams in an avalanche of ways. Enablers such as HR, Procurement, and IT to rethink expense policies, connectivity, security, and office space – to name but a few.
Last year, longer-term transformation to bolster resilience were scrutinised or put on hold whilst social media was awash with promotions to go digital. As for outsourcing: studies showed an almost perfect split in that half of companies asked intended to insource to regain control whilst a similar number of companies explored increased outsourcing to further reduce cost.
Over a year into the pandemic, it is time to rethink Finance outsourcing and operating models now that remote working is the norm.
