Date: 17 March 2022
Time: 7.00 – 8.30 PM, followed by drinks
At the event a short presentation into Street Photography and the WiSSG exhibition will be given by curator of the exhibition and ADB-DutchCham member Karlynne Wintels. After an introduction of the genre, we will go into some more general photographic tips and tricks, and how to improve your photo taking skills, we will talk about the golden ratio, the rule-of-thirds, depth of field and other things. This can be done either on a camera or on your smartphone, a ‘real’ camera is not needed for this event. We will discuss various compositions and use the artworks on display to identify the techniques. A night of photography and picking up some new skills on the way. Afterwards there will be enough time to connect and to have a drink.
Please note that you will receive a beautiful set of 8 postcards of the exhibition including in the ticket price. Drinks afterwards will be on your own account.
About the Exhibition
‘Women by Women – a street photography exhibition celebrating Singapore’s women’ is WiSSG’s inaugural showcase. Women in Street Singapore, or WiSSG, is a group aiming to connect, inspire and develop female street photographers in our little red dot. A bold and varied group of women with various backgrounds and nationalities connected through their shared passion for street photography. Founded in 2020 by Marie Dailey and Charlene Winfred.
This exhibition showcases 13 female street photographers in Singapore. It represents the key sub-genres of street photography, namely the Realistic, the Geometric, the Abstract, Fine Art and Street Portraitrature. Opening on International Women’s Day, it aims to celebrate Singapore’s women. By Singapore’ women.
Through our shared values and objectives this exhibition has been made possible by the generous support of HEARTH by Art Outreach. Curated by the WiSSG team Marie Dailey and Karlynne Wintels.
About Karlynne Wintels
A graduate in Photography from the School of Marketing, Advertising and Design and current managing member of the Women in Street Singapore community. Originally from the Netherlands, Karlynne has lived in Singapore for over 4 years. Here in Singapore I discovered my love for street photography, exploring my new home city with my camera. It is my passion to document daily life, to be remembered and cherished now, and in the future. Besides street photography I specialise in documentary style family photography, or ‘day in the life’ photography. Bringing candid, real life photography to family portraits as well.
